Lovelier than Lilacs

I spent some time this week scanning in some more of the old pictures my mom gave me. I know I've said it before, but I do really love those old pictures. I wonder about their lives, their dreams, sorrows and heartaches. I have a lot of them digitized now and organized into family files.

This is a picture of my great aunt. Leona, was one of my maternal grandfather's four sisters. Raquel and I both think she was beautiful and like the picture on the right. I suppose this is really an introduction of sorts to Leona. I don't know Leona's date of birth or when she passed away, but I do know a little bit about her life.
I have quite a few pictures of her family and will eventually be doing more pages for my heritage album.

I really like this kit of Deb's, lilacs are one of my favorite flowers. I had decided I wanted to use a quote about lilacs on this page. It was all done, except for that and finally after several hours of internet surfing, I found this one, (you'd think there would be more quotes on lilacs). It seemed to go perfectly with the rest of the page. The quote reads:

Thou art not lovelier than lilacs,—no
Sonnet I

THOU art not lovelier than lilacs,—no,
Nor honeysuckle; thou art not more fair
Than small white single poppies,—I can bear
Thy beauty; though I bend before thee, though
From left to right, not knowing where to go,
I turn my troubled eyes, nor here nor there
Find any refuge from thee, yet I swear
So has it been with mist,—with moonlight so.

Like him who day by day unto his draught
Of delicate poison adds him one drop more
Till he may drink unharmed the death of ten,
Even so, inured to beauty, who have quaffed
Each hour more deeply than the hour before,
I drink—and live—what has destroyed some men.

Enchanting & Lovely

June's challenge at Blush-n-Dusty is to do a LO featuring yourself. It really is a good subject, as it is not very often I do a page with me in it. Since I'm usually the one taking the pictures, there are not that many of me I guess. These pictures were taken in our yard a couple of weeks ago.

Dance in the Rain

We get a lot of rainy days in June. Normally I like the rain, but today it matches my mood and I wish, I had the time to go for a quiet walk in it.

I really like this quote and have been wanting to use it with these pictures of Raquel for awhile. I took these pictures, about a year ago, one afternoon after she got off the bus. She was enjoying the rain and doing a little dance. Raquel didn't see me taking pictures right away, but once she did, she had to give me a little pose. My beautiful girl, I hope you always remember to dance in the rain.
